WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY, SAFE & JOYOUS HOLI !
In India, there is an antidote for every poison, a response for every notion and an alternate perspective to every tale. As the flames engulf the demoness Holika and Prahlad remains unscathed - some say that the evil aunt's magical shawl lost its power as she was in the wrong. Others believe that a repentant sister gave her shawl to her brother's pious son to protect him from the blaze.
While you make peace with one story a third voice quips - The flames also remind us of Lord Shiva burning Kamadeva as punishment for inducing lust in Him. On hearing the pleas of Rati - Kama's wife, Lord Shiva promises to restore him partially on Dol Purnima(the full moon night of Holi) . With Holi, a wiser Kama returns with his floral arrows to induce joy that is free of lust and desire.
The flames rage every year, Holika smiles her fanged smile while a new Kama strings his sugarcane bow. One thing stays is an abundance of fantastical tales for generations to live by !
Have a great holi & celebrate with Puran poli a typical Maharshtrian sweet roti, a delicacy to begin celebrations for a festivals of colors !
