July sees the monsoon lashing the country with incessant rains. As rivers and canals brim over and the hills and plains are covered in blankets of emerald green vegetation, India celebrates.

The Islamic holy month of Ramazan ends with Eid-ul-Fitr - a day of merrymaking and thanksgiving. Great mosques witness the devout rise and bend in prayer and in the spirit of the day the needy are look after by their more fortunate brethren.

The moon soon transforms from the beautiful crescent of Eid to the glorious full moon of Guru Purnima. The day that sees Indians thank and honour their teachers who have helped them in all spheres of life and shepherded them through its trials and tribulations.

The crowning glory of this month is the celebration of the famous Ratha Yatra of Puri - the chariot festival of Lord Jagannatha. The round eyed smiling God - state deity of Odisha and Lord of the universe - is adored all over the world as Vishnu incarnate. The festival sees him come out of his grand temple with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and goddess Subhadra to make merry with his devotees without the man-made boundaries of caste, creed or religion. As the deities make their way in the beautiful chariots, a light shower drenches all in the haze of love and devotion.
